You Might Be a Geek If Posted 9 hours, 59 minutes ago by Dave Nelson

I know I'm a geek but in case you're not completely sure yourself, here's a small test.  If you can relate to any of these then you're probably one too.

These statements were taken from various sources accross the web and I picked the ones that most matched my geekiness.

Enjoy!

  • Your household ratio of computers to humans is at least 4:1.
  • The only people you follow on Twitter are people you're "normal" friends have never heard of.
  • You walk down the isle at your wedding to “Imperial March from Star Wars.
  • The title of every movie you own starts with the word "Star".
  • You can remember your 10 favorite URLs but not your own zip code.
  • The only passwords you've ever used were the nomenclature of any versions of the Starship Enterprise.
  • You know what “http://” stands for.
  • When someone mentions java and coffee is the second thing that goes through your mind.
  • You get violently upset when your cable modem or dsl goes down.
  • Its easier for your spouse to send you an email or text when dinner is ready.
  • You check your email before you get out of bed in the morning.
  • The two tattoos you have are Sci Fi related.

Star Trek Was Robbed! Posted 1 day, 10 hours ago by Dave Nelson

That's right, I said it! Star Trek was robbed.  Out of the 4 categories they were nominated for at the Academy Awards the movie only won ONE! A single Oscar statue.

To prove to you they should've taken home all of them here's a list of awesome things that could've only happened only in Star Trek, per the category they lost in!

Visual Effects

Winner - Avatar

Oh, excuse me, didn't the passengers in the space ship at the beginning of the film have to go to sleep for their long journey?  Hmmm, let me think.  Nope, would never happen in Star Trek, thanks to a little something called WARP DRIVE!

Sound Editing

Winner - The Hurt Locker

All those people that died in the movie from gun fire wouldn't have in Star Trek because of an gadget known as the phaser.  It shoots a beam of energy that can be controlled and set to different levels, including stun (which just knocks your enemy out for a little while).

Sound Mixing

Winner - The Hurt Locker

The film is about an explosive ordnance disposal team right?  Well, the job would've been a lot easier in Star Trek because they could've just beamed away the bomb or IED using the transporter.

So there!  Have I made my point?

P.S. Star Trek had Zoe Saldana first

Constant Gaming Posted 3 days, 8 hours ago by Dave Nelson

I am not a gamer in the least but found this news interesting.  You may have heard about the new Windows Phone 7 Series OS coming to handsets soon.  What you may not have heard about is it's integrated gaming feature.  Apparently you can take a game you were playing on Xbox Live and continue it where you left off on your phone.  So it's like taking whatever you're playing with you at all times.

Here's a video of Microsoft's Eric Rudder, speaking at TechEd Middle East, showing how this feature works.

Space Battles Baby!! Posted 5 days, 14 hours ago by Dave Nelson

Alright, so the 100th episode of Ghost Hunters the other night was really cool.  It was awesome that they finally got to investigate at Alcatraz and the live Q & A between segments was neat too but during some of the commercial breaks Syfy played promos for their upcoming shows, including the new season of Stargate Universe.

In it were scenes from that show's first ever space battles which got me really excited.  Absolutely nothing beats some good old fashioned ship to ship or ships to ships combat.

So, I bring to you, courtesy of some random YouTube user a space battle montage video using scenes from Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, among others.

And here is the promo I mentioned for Stargate Universe, which premieres Friday, April 2nd at 8 p.m.

Phonedog.com Posted 6 days, 8 hours ago by Dave Nelson

In my first official "tech blog" I wanted to share with you one of my all-time favorite websites.  It's www.phonedog.com

If you are at all interested in cell phones or as they're more likely to be called lately, mobile devices, this is the place for you.

This site is especially useful if you're in the market for a new hand-held.  They have reviews, price comparisons and my favorite thing, the videos.  A lot of them star Noah Kravitz, the editor of Phonedog and very funny guy.

Here's an example of his work.

Thanks Noah!

If that didn't scare you too much and you're still interested in checking out the site, the address is www.phonedog.com

Are You Scared? Posted 6 days, 13 hours ago by Dave Nelson

It's so exciting!  The Syfy channel show Ghost Hunters premiers their new season tonight with a special two hour 100th episode.  It will feature a recent investigation at Alcatraz prison interspersed with a live Q & A with the cast on the same set Saturday Night Live uses in New York City.

I am a newcomer to Ghost Hunters.  Have only been watching it for a few months now but in the words of Davy Jones, "I'm a believer"!  In fact, I've had some weird stuff happen in my apartment in recently.

My perfectly normal functioning coffee maker freaked out one morning and spilled everywhere.  And no, it wasn't operator error!  One day last week I discovered my door keey was bent.  Have no idea how that happened.  There's been other stuff too like waking up to the sound of a very loud exhale and the feeling that someone was sitting on my bed when there was nobody there!

I'm sure some if not most of this suff can be explained away but it's a little freaky just the same.

If I were to run a digital audio recorder and caught an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) there is no way I'd ever be able to sleep in that apartment ever again!

So for now I will just ignore what goes bump in the night and enjoy the new season of Ghost Hunters.

If you want to know more, here's a link to their page on Syfy.com and below is a video of the best moments on GH.
